Christians, awake, salute the
happy morn,
Rise to adore the mystery of love,
Which hosts of angels chanted from
above;
With them the joyful tidings first [Son.
begun
Of God incarnate and the Virgin’s

Then to be watchful shepherds it [voice: Behold,
Who heard the angelic herald’s
I bring good tidings of a saviour’s [earth
birth
To you and all the nations upon
This day hath God fulfilled His
promised word,
This day is born a Saviour, Christ
the Lord.
Verse 3
He spake; and straightway the [conspire,
celestial choir
In hymns of joy, unknown before,
The praises of redeeming love they [lujahs rang;
And heaven’s whole orb with halle-
God’s highest glory was their an
them still,
Peace upon earth, and unto men
goodwill.
Verse 4
To Bethlehem straight the enlight
ened shepherds ran,
To see the wonder God had [God, return,
wrought for man:
Then to their flocks, still praising
And their glad hearts with holy [proclaim,
rapture burn;
Amazed, the wondrous tidings they
The first apostles of His infant fame.
Verse 5
Oh may we keep and ponder in our [mankind;
God’s wondrous love in saving lost
Trace we the Babe, who hath retrieved
our loss,
From the poor manger to the bitter [grace,
Cross;
Tread in His steps, assisted by His
Till man’s first heavenly state again
takes place.
Verse 6
Then may we hope, the angelic [song;
hosts among,
To sing, redeemed, a glad triumphal
He that was born upon this joyful day
Around us all His glory shall display:
Saved by His love, incessant we [King.
shall sing
